More about ZEST bird feeder...

The ZEST Bird Feeder by Stalen Design is a sleek and functional wall-mounted bird feeder, also known as a feeding station, bird feeding spot, feeding table, wall-mounted bird house, or hanging feeding tray. This modern design object is entirely designed and manufactured in the Netherlands, where aesthetics and functionality perfectly come together.

The ZEST model is designed as a wall-mounted unit and is attached directly to a wall, fence, or facade. It is made of 1 mm thick Corten steel – a durable type of steel that develops a characterful rust layer over time. This protective patina makes the material weather-resistant while giving it a warm, natural look that blends beautifully into an outdoor environment.

Thanks to its open design, the ZEST bird feeder is ideal for providing birds with food in an accessible and safe way. The included stainless steel screws and plugs ensure simple and secure attachment to almost any exterior wall.

CORTEN STEEL

About Corten steel

Corten steel is a high-quality metal alloy consisting of iron enriched with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. It is known for its distinctive rust-brown color and natural industrial aesthetic.

What makes Corten steel unique is the dense oxide film (rust layer) that forms on the surface. This layer protects the underlying material from oxygen, which significantly slows down the rusting process and allows the metal to last for years — without rusting through.

Important to know

Corten steel is supplied as standard in its original, grey metallic state (unrusted).
Minor imperfections in the corten steel (such as scratches/steel production codes) will become invisible during the rusting process.
Within approximately 1 to 2 months, a rust-coloured patina layer will form — completely natural, without any additional treatment.
During the rusting process, the material may stain surfaces or surrounding elements.
Corten steel is suitable for outdoor use in all weather conditions and does not require a coating.

Maintenance tips

Let the rusting process take its course. Do not use any chemical agents or oils.
Prevent moisture stains during storage: unpack the material immediately upon receipt.
Avoid standing water on horizontal surfaces to limit staining.
Clean only with water and a soft brush if desired — do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
When mounting on sensitive surfaces: consider a spacer or edge finish to prevent rust runoff.
